Lecture Series
Through regular presentations and conversations, academics, business leaders, and other experts from the Houston area bring thought-provoking perspectives to residents.
Writing Workshops
Every resident has a story to share. Writing workshops, taught by local Houston instructors, help them explore the written word through poetry, memoirs, or fiction. Whether they are lifelong writers or just dipping their pen in the ink, it’s a chance to help craft their legacy.
Museum Visits
Day trips to local institutions around Houston are easily accessible from our prime location at The Doliver of Tanglewood. Below are examples of nearby opportunities to engage with the culture of our city.
1. Museum of Fine Arts Houston
With a diverse, global collection spanning over 6,000 years of art history, MFAH gives visitors a tour through some of the most engaging and awe-inspiring works. Regular rotating exhibitions provide an exclusive look at world-class art, such as the historic Pavia Tapestries or the “Floating Worlds” of A. A. Murakami.
Highlighting Houston’s critical role in human space exploration, Space Center Houston offers behind-the-scenes tours and access to real spacecraft. From the Apollo 17 module to the Saturn V rocket, this interactive learning experience is the official visitors center of NASA’s still operational Johnson Space Center.
Home of the private collection of prolific art collectors John and Dominique de Menil, this intimate museum gives visitors the chance to experience art in a more unique setting. Located in a tree-lined and quiet residential neighborhood, the collection’s green spaces provide total serenity.
Art Classes
From oil painting to pottery, hands-on art classes inspire residents to express themselves in many different mediums. Guided by instructors, these experiences spark creativity and inspire creation at any age.
Not only are creative opportunities fun, they are great for health and well-being. A study by Frontiers Public Health found older adults who engaged in recreational arts had significantly better mental well-being and physical health.
Whether through writing, learning, speaking, or creating, there’s no better time than now for our residents to pursue their educational and creative interests. Continued engagement does more than spark joy and purpose. These meaningful experiences improve mental and emotional well-being, serving as the foundation for living life well.
